Ideally, an entrepreneur should set up a daily work schedule, try to work diligently for several hours at a time, and then take a break as a reward.
Does anyone else here resent being asked about work-life balance? The context is that I'm a leader and one of the few women leaders in my company. I'm always being sent to panels and talking about this topic and I feel like my male colleagues never get this question. Any thoughts on how to address this? I feel like its perpetuating gender stereotypes but on the other hand, I get that the reason people ask this is they want to really know.
I have a potential opportunity to work for a mid sized company. It would be a good career move (more pay, better title, more responsibility), however, the company does not have any flex options. The manager has said there is no potential to work remotely and although there are no fixed hours, most people seem to get to work much earlier than I would be able to. I only have experience working in large corporations. Do you think this is typical of smaller/mid sized businesses. Also, anyone know of smaller companies that do offer flex opportunities (looking for Strategy/Finance type roles). Appreciate any thoughts!
It’s not all bad, of course. I never have to miss anything my kids are a part of, and I do get to enjoy a lot of time with my little people. I have been forced to learn to compartmentalize my time and set clear boundaries, which is a good thing. I have had to learn not to feel guilty for working in front of my kids, though admittedly I still struggle with that sometimes. My husband more than pulls his own weight, so overall, the benefits outweigh the challenges.
Are you good with animals? Spread the word to friends and neighbors that you're available to watch their pets while the owners go on a vacation or weekend trip. Pet owners often feel more comfortable leaving their furry friends in the care of an individual rather than placing pets in a boarding facility, so getting referrals shouldn't be too difficult. If you can't commit to lodging animals in your home, consider starting a dog walking or waste cleanup business.

When my oldest was being bullied at school I was a single Mom and desperately needed money to pay for an alternative private school. So I became an ethical dog breeder. Twenty seven years on I’m still doing it and reckon it beats most other options out there hands down.
Hi, I really enjoyed this article. I think everyone has a skill they can market like being a VA, writing, web design etc for some extra cash. I think the main thing to consider when starting a business is if you can run the business with your day job. It’s great if you can build a service based business to work from home but it takes time to build these business to replace a wage – it took me three years. Great post!
